Vito Schnabel Gallery recently announced the collaboration with Francesco Clemente, New York-based Italian and American artist, as they present a parallel exhibitions in New York and St. Mortiz, Switzerland. Clemente will debut his new paintings and frescoes.
Both the New York and St. Mortiz shows will present large-scale works that represents the restless, physical and spiritual journey that has shaped the course of the artist’s acclaimed four-decade career.
According to Clemente “Francesco Clemente: India will be on view at Vito Schnabel Projects, New York, from November 8, 2019 through January 17, 2020. Francesco Clemente: Clouds will be on view at Vito Schnabel Gallery, St. Moritz, from December 27, 2019 through February 2, 2020.”
Francesco Clemente: India takes its name from the title of a four-part series of monumental canvases that continue Clemente’s lifelong dialogue with the cultural and artistic practices of India. The four paintings displayed will depict maps of the country’s geographic borders punctured with symbols that draw from the nomadic experiences of Clemente’s life.
In contrast, the paintings of Francesco Clemente: Clouds examines the value of an image and symbolism of this trans-historical motif. Clemente’s Clouds paintings foster an exchange between sensuality and spirituality, eroticism and ecstasy.
The visuals from both exhibitions draws inspiration from Clemente’s cultural, historical, and aesthetic affinities. This also depicts the rejuvenation and reflection of his art that confirms his commitment to the here and now.
