MoMA PS1 presents the first major exhibition of artist and IADS activist Gregg Bordowitz

Greg Bordowitz has been living with HIV for more than half of his adult life. In the mid-1980s he transformed his art practice in response to the AIDS public health crisis. I Wanna Be Well exhibition surveys 30 years of the artist’s practice alongside the coalitions of activists, writers, thinkers, and friends who have shaped his life. On view from May 13 to October 11, the exhibition in MoMA PS1 will present artworks I which Bordowitz often used his “personal history as a way to tell a story shared by many.”

In the context of the urgency of the continuing AIDS epidemic and COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition raises broad questions about how we define health, community, and care. In a new large-scale sculpture created on-site for the PS1 exhibition, Bordowitz explores parallels between COVID-19 and aspects of the enormous loss and resilience experienced by many communities affected by AIDS.
