Museum of Modern Art will present the first major retrospective in 30 years, dedicated to one of America’s most renowned and recognized African-American and Social realist artists.

On view from October 7th through January 13th, 2019, the exhibition will cover full breadth of Charles White’s career, featuring more than 100 drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, and other multidisciplinary works. The works created during a prolific career of White, ended by his premature death in 1979, reflect enormous change in the US. His art (primarily black and white or sepia and white drawings, paintings, and lithographs), address social and political concerns of his time and reveal White to be a responsive visual strategist, open to exploring new styles and techniques.
