Intentionally not Fitting in : Roberto Cuoghi

The artist, who intentionally defies any sort of categorization with his practice, will now be represented worldwide by Hauser & Wirth.

A simple Google search of the name Roberto Cuoghi hints you to first look at his most famous work—Padre, a project, which began in 1998 where Cuoghi transformed himself into his father. Not in metaphorical kind of way—by the end of that work, he weighed 308 pounds, with gray hair and sunken eyes.

Cuoghi is renowned for a strong emphasis on process and physical change as a manifestation of psychological metamorphosis. He seamlessly slides between different practices, skillfully mastering the techniques of painters, sculptors, musicians, and other disciplines.

Now more audiences in New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, as well as England and Switzerland, where Hauser & Wirth gallery has locations, will be able to get acquainted with Cuoghi’s work up-close. At this year’s ADAA Art Show booth in New York, Hauser & Wirth will showcase recent sculptures by Cuoghi, including works from “Putiferio” and “Ether en Flocons” series. Later this year, the Hauser & Wirth gallery in New York will host its first solo show with the artist.
