Los-Angeles native Mark Bradford’s first hometown exhibition in 15 years.

Mark Bradford doesn’t need a fancy, undecipherable title for his exhibition—the artist’s incisive examination of culture, race, socioeconomics in his mixed-media works marked him as one of the most influential artists of his generation. Titled simply “Mark Bradford: New Works”, the exhibition on view at Hauser & Wirth through May 2018, showcases 10 new paintings, that bear Bradford’s signature style. He probes stories found in comic books to question the archetype of the antihero and the influence of the media on contemporary society, while also revisiting misconceptions of black identity and gender. Featured in the exhibition is a tribute to Jack Whitten, a fellow abstract painter and a friend of Bradford’s.
