Alongside Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko, Arshile Gorky is recognized as one of the pivotal figures of 20th century American Art. Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia presents the first retrospective survey of the American artist in Italy.

On view from May 8th through September 22nd, the retrospective reveals the evolution of Gorky’s distinctive artistic vocabulary, bringing together the artist’s most important works. The organizers aim not only reacquaint the audience with Gorky’s singular stance, but also show the prolific energy of a man who rejected borders and labels of all kinds. Come to the exhibition and answer and find the answer to the question, whether denying art historical categories and any limitations, such individual expression could only emerge from mid-century New York.
