Rethinking “I Love You”
ShanghART Bejing presents China’s solo exhibition debut of renowned Indonesian artist Melati Suryodarmo.
Known for her durational performances, Melati Suryodarmo is a visual artist, whose works are concerned with cultural, social and political aspects. In the exhibition, which opened on Wednesday and will run through May 14th, the audience will have a chance to see her multidisciplinary approach to art in photographs, videos, and live performance.
Melati, among other works, brings her iconic “I Love You” performance, accompanying the exhibition on April 29th and 1st of May. The piece provokes the meaning of a language and the bias of its use. “I Love You” was presented as part of the one-day exhibition curated by Marina Abramovic in 2014.
