The Inaugural Figure of A New American Realism

Stephen Posen’s cross-continent exhibition to go on view at Vito Schnabel Projects

If art should not be appreciated outside of its historical context, relevance and significance, New York-based artist Stephen Posen’s works have a lot to offer. When the prevailing abstraction began to get out of the spotlight in the late 60s, Posen developed a vision and style, both astonishingly modern and fresh, expressed in his bold illusional paintings.

On view from May 2nd through June 23rd in New York, Threads: Paintings from the 1960s and ‘70s will then travel to Europe, presenting artist’s works in Switzerland starting July 28th.

Vito Schnabel is putting together the first significant presentation to revisit Posen’s breakthrough works, since the artist’s debut at NY Soho gallery O.K.Harris nearly five decades ago.
