To Brazil and Back Laffanour Galerie’s Homage to Tropicalism

Laffanour Galerie Downtown puts on a show, offering a tour to the Tropicalism movement in works of three architects and designers: Charlotte Perriand, Oscar Niemeyer and Zanine Caldas.

On view for one month until November 10th, Tropicalism exhibition puts a spotlight on a cultural movement born in the midst of military dictatorship. The disruptive artistic movement, characterized by a the fusion of traditional Brazilian culture with foreign influences, encompassed art forms from theater, poetry, and music, to design. The exhibition showcases works by three prominent actors of the movement, across different disciplines: Charlotte Perriand, Oscar Niemeyer and Zanine Caldas, who put forward principles of the Tropicalism in their works, using local materials, considering unique climatic requirements and adopting the typical forms of these countries of South America.
