When art meets politics

Artists join for Hillary Clinton’s campaign fundraising in an exclusive auction hosted by Larry Gagosian. The US presidential race is heating up with every passing day, and last Monday it came into the art scene. Gagosian Gallery on West 21st Street in New York hosted a special auction to make a contribution to the fundraising efforts for Hillary Clinton’s campaign featuring works by Cindy Sherman, Robert Longo, Jeff Koons and Barbara Kruger among others.

The owner of the gallery Larry Gagosian may have donated to political candidates in the past, but it’s the first time he opens his space to host a fundraiser. With Chelsea Clinton as a special guest, Art for Hillary included a pre-reception with the artists, followed by the auction. For those who wanted to take #ImWithHer on the new level, showing some real support offline, tickets to the event ranged from $1000 to $50 000, with works by Chuck Close and Jeff Koons coming with the entry to the auction.
