Chinese documentaries supported by Sundance

Twenty two documentary at various stage of production are announced as latest Documentary Fund Grantees. Argentina, Chile, USA, UK, Peru, Afghanistan— the geography of the projects is as diverse as the topics they unveil. Notably, two projects Chinese directors are on the list.

In “Mom of the Ring” director Yue Wu confronts the social expectations of being a mom, wife, and daughter-in-law through portraying the life of a professional boxer. A joint USA-China production of “76 Days”, another project on the list, is set in the early days of COVID-19 outbreak, capturing the struggles and human resilience in Wuhan. In words of Sundance Documentary Film Fund Director Hajnal Molnar-Szakacs, the recent fund grantees projects “are helping us make sense of our collective history and reality, and through innovative approaches on diverse topics, helping us imagine a collective future”.
