Having premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, the debut feature film of Lucia Garibaldi won the directing award in World Cinema Dramatic category. Pretty sweet outcome for a debut, especially considering, that when she was shooting the film in a coastal town about 150 km from Montevideo, Uruguay, the director had no idea what kind of reception her film was about to receive. Sharing the making of «Los Tiburones», a coming of age story with a restless 15-year-old girl named Rosina in the center, the director says one of the lessons she learnt is that «no matter what it costs, you have to defend your world, your vision, what’s at the heart of all the ideas that form the film—the feeling that first made you think about making it.». As a creative, seeing the story materialize and projected on screen, later taking on a new meaning with audience’s interpretation, «The film is transforming all the time, and there is nothing I can do—it’s magical but also a little exasperating.».
