A Historic Celebration: Vice President Kamala Harris and the Recording Academy's Black Music Collective Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop

In a monumental event held at Vice President Kamala Harris' official residence on September 9, 2023, history was made as the Recording Academy's esteemed Black Music Collective, in collaboration with Live Nation Urban, paid tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop. This vibrant celebration brought together artists, legends of the genre, and more than 400 attendees to commemorate the enduring influence and global cultural impact of Hip-Hop.

The event underscored the significance of Hip-Hop's five foundational pillars: MC, DJ, Breakdance, Graffiti, and Beatbox. Each pillar was celebrated for its unique and invaluable contribution to the genre, emphasizing the diverse and innovative spirit of Hip-Hop.

The celebration featured electrifying performances by a lineup of iconic artists, including Black Alley Band, Common, D-Nice, DJ Domo, Doug E. Fresh, Fat Joe, Gravity and breakers, Jeezy, Lil Wayne, MC Lyte, Remy Ma, Saba, Slick Rick, Too $hort, and Wale. Their performances not only entertained but also paid homage to the rich history and evolution of Hip-Hop.
