The HBO Original comedy series FANTASMAS, created, directed by, and starring Julio Torres (known for "Problemista" and HBO’s "Los Espookys"), is set to premiere on Friday, June 7 (11:00–11:30 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO. The series will also be available for streaming on Max, with new episodes debuting weekly throughout its six-episode season.
Writer, director, and comedian Julio Torres spins a fantastical six-part tale centered around the mysterious loss of a gold oyster earring. As Julio embarks on a quest to recover the cherished item, he encounters a variety of offbeat characters in introspective, often eerie, and always comedic vignettes set in a dreamy, alternate version of New York City. FANTASMAS blends a kaleidoscope of color and surrealism, weaving together stories of individuals searching for meaning, purpose, and connection in an increasingly isolating world.
The series stars Julio Torres as Julio, Martine Gutierrez as Vanesja, Tomas Matos as Chester, and Joe Rumrill as the voice of Bibo. The show will feature nearly two dozen guest stars making special appearances across the six episodes, including Steve Buscemi, Paul Dano, Julia Fox, Alexa Demie, Emma Stone, Aidy Bryant, Bowen Yang, Kim Petras, and Ziwe.
FANTASMAS is created, directed, and written by Julio Torres. The series is executive produced by Julio Torres, Emma Stone, and Dave McCary for Fruit Tree, Alex Bach and Daniel Powell for Irony Point, and Olivia Gerke for 3 Arts. Ali Herting serves as co-executive producer.
FANTASMAS promises a unique blend of humor and surreal storytelling, offering viewers a whimsical journey through a fantastical version of New York City filled with quirky characters and intriguing narratives. Be sure to tune in on June 7 for the premiere.
