HBO Renews House of the Dragon for a Third Season

The HBO Original drama series *House of the Dragon* has been renewed for a third season, even before the highly anticipated second season premiere on Sunday, June 16, from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streaming on Max.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s *Fire & Blood*, the series is set 200 years before the events of *Game of Thrones* and chronicles the rise and fall of House Targaryen.
The second season features a stellar cast including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, and Jefferson Hall. New additions for the upcoming season include Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor, and Vincent Regan.
Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, expressed her excitement about the renewal: “George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of *House of the Dragon*. The second season of *House of the Dragon* has already garnered acclaim from critics. TheWrap praised it as a “breathlessly exciting and gripping tale,” while GQ lauded it as a “return to Thrones' golden age.” Esquire has named it “the biggest show of the summer,” TV Guide described it as “the grandest TV available,” and Collider declared it “the best fantasy television show of the decade.”
The executive team for season two includes Co-Creator and Executive Producer George R.R. Martin, Co-Creator, Showrunner, and Executive Producer Ryan Condal, along with Executive Producers Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.
