On June 26, 2024, the Recording Academy® extended membership invitations to more than 3,900 established music professionals, highlighting its ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and representation in the music industry. This year’s class of invitees is notably diverse, comprising 45% women, 57% people of color, and 47% individuals under the age of 40. With these new additions, the Recording Academy is on track to achieve its goal of adding 2,500 women Voting Members by 2025, reaching this milestone a year ahead of schedule.
### **Invitation Process and Membership Details**
Invited individuals must formally accept their invitations by July 31 to become members of the Recording Academy. Once accepted, they can participate in the Online Entry Process (OEP) for the upcoming GRAMMY Awards®, which allows members to submit eligible recordings, music videos, and other content for consideration. Those invited as Voting Members will have the opportunity to vote for the GRAMMY Awards, with the first voting ballot opening on October 4 and closing on October 15. The 67th GRAMMY Awards® is scheduled to take place on February 2, 2025, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed his enthusiasm for the new class of invitees, stating, "There’s no better way to kick off GRAMMY season than by inviting thousands of diverse and talented music creators and professionals to join our Recording Academy family. Our members are the heart of the Academy, driving our mission to make lasting, positive impacts on the music community and shape music history. We are hopeful that all 3,900+ invitees join us in serving, celebrating, and championing the voices of music creators year-round."
The Recording Academy’s membership invitation process is community-driven and peer-reviewed, ensuring that each new member is actively involved in the music industry. The Academy offers two types of membership: Voting Membership for music creators and Professional Membership for music business professionals. Interested musicians and professionals must apply by March 1 each year, after which a peer review panel of existing Recording Academy members assesses the applications. Approved candidates receive an invitation to join the Recording Academy.
Among the newly invited members are Tanner Adell, Ashnikko, Grupo Frontera, and Teddy Swims, who each shared their excitement about this milestone in their careers:
