Sundance Institute and Science Sandbox announced their new collaboration— an inaugural initiative to support innovative artists, who create science-focused works.

One artist and four projects in various stages of production and audience engagement were selected for the pilot year of the program, receiving non-recoupable grants and access to Sundance Institute’s year-round continuum of support. Theo Anthony will receive the artist grant to support his creative process.

Thanks to the project grants, Ian Cheney will continue exploring some of humanity’s biggest unanswered questions in his work The Most Unknown; Katie DellaMaggiore’s The Quiet Zone will reach the audience telling the story of the only town in America, where cell phones and all wireless technology are banned; Shalini Kantayya will keep examining the bias programmed into computer algorithms and how they affect our civil liberties; and in Inventing Tomorrow, Laura Nix will tell the stories of teenage scientists across the globe working to solve our most pressing environmental challenges.
