Arts, Creativity and Meditation : David Lynch's Festival

David Lynch’s immersive Festival of Disruption ran this past weekend at the Ace Hotel’s theater in downtown Los Angeles. Dubbed “a genre-expansive event of music, film, talks, and theater”, the festival is curated entirely by the famed director and for the fourth time brought David Lynch’s favorite creatives together.

The festival featured a live audience Q&A with Lynch, alongside stage talks with Francis Ford Coppola, Grace Jones, and Twin Peaks collaborators among others. During the day, the guests could also check out a Twin Peaks VR experience which debuted at the festival, and exhibits like David O’Reilly’s contemplative video game or photographic collaboration between Lynch and fashion designer Christian Louboutin, showcasing pictures of models wearing bizarre, unwearable shoes. The nights gave way to sound, ranging from styles of Sigur Ros, Mercury Rev, Dover Quartet, RZA, and Justin Johnson.

The two-day event, sponsored by an all-female company Into the Sun Entertainment, as well as Bvlgari, Shiseido, and Lalu among others, supports a great cause. Proceeds from the festival benefit the David Lynch Foundation, which is on a mission to reduce toxic stress and trauma among victims of domestic violence, veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress, and underserved urban youth through transcendental meditation. Lynch himself is an avid practitioner of this evidence-based technique, devoting time to it twice a day for 45 years.
