Gucci Responds to Blackface Scandal with An Action Plan
Gucci released a statement announcing plans to boost cultural diversity and awareness after unintentional balaclava jumper incident.
After receiving backlash recently for one of its clothing items resembling blackface caricatures, the brand is taking actions with four long-term initiatives designed to help with exposed shortfalls in Gucci’s current strategic approach to embedding diversity. The company will also add a newly created role—global director for diversity and inclusion based in NY headquarters. The awareness program, which will help educate all of Gucci’s reported 18,000 employees across the globe, will go into effect at the beginning of May.
