The Outsider Art Fair, a go-to event for self-taught artists, has returned for its 26th edition in New York and its the most wide-ranging edition yet.

What constitutes an outsider art? This term refers to naïve, primitive, self-taught, tribal, street, or vernacular art, and the Outsider Art Fair is an event, embracing it all. Since 1993, this art fair showcases works of “outsider artists’—those who are self-taught or create artworks outside established circles and institutions. This year, the NYC event showcased artists from 63 galleries, representing 35 cities from seven countries. This year, a wide variety of artworks, like tole painting, handicrafts, items made from wood, metal and copper, pencil sketches, drawings, watercolor and pastel color paintings, and ceramics were on display. From works of famed outsiders James Castle, Martin Ramirez, Bill Traylor to new discoveries like Leopold Strobl—there was a lot to see at the fair this year.
