John Fife, a World War II veteran and retired civil servant, recently celebrated his 100th birthday in style. Born in Edinburgh and now residing in Clevedon, North Somerset, U.K., Fife marked his milestone with two heartwarming parties surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors.

Fife, who served in the Royal Air Force from 1943 to 1946 as a wireless operator and air gunner, reflected on the most significant invention of his lifetime: the smartphone. He praised it as a revolutionary tool that has transformed the way we connect and live.

After his military service, Fife dedicated himself to the civil service, receiving recognition for his role in establishing the headquarters for National Savings & Investments. A career highlight came in 1970 when he was presented to Queen Elizabeth II.

At 100 years old, Fife credits his longevity to staying active, setting daily goals, and helping others. “Make a decision to do things and carry them out,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of kindness and purpose.

Fife starts each day with a fixed goal, enjoys long walks, jigsaw puzzles, and has embraced new friendships and activities since moving to a retirement community in 2022.

His story is a testament to the power of resilience, purpose, and connection. Cheers to 100 incredible years, Mr. Fife!
