The Seedy Club on Donghu Road

You could be forgiven for passing by the office block at 20 Donghu Road in Shanghai without so much as a second glance. You’d probably forget you even saw it, fading into the backdrop of the shiny skyscrapers of the bustling district. And that’s exactly what they want. Tucked away on the 7th floor of that unassuming building is the most decadent nightclub in China, a moulin Rouge re-imagined in the heart of Shanghai. One of only four in the world – a fifth in London having closed – this is Le Baron, a sultry and highly exclusive club that in its eleven-year history has quickly become the venue adored by the rich and sexy.

Created by Swedish-Portuguese graffiti artist André Saraiva, this Paris-born haunt can be found in only the most glamorous cities and is known for being hard to get into. Part-house party, part-bordello, the club is bathed in red lights beaming down onto the lavish fish-bone parquet flooring, complete with Le Baron’s signature vintage peep-show and stripper booths and Saraivia’s Mr A gracing the walls along with chic infinity mirrors. Featuring the best guest DJs from the global scene, from Conblaster to DJ show, no expense has been spared in making this circus-esque celebrity hangout the latest seedy shrine of Le Baron global cult, mixing the sacred with the profane and flirting with darkness.
