300 Years of Fashion #FashionForward

In the times when fashion races at full speed to the point of literally disposable attire, when designers have to remind the crowds of how the couture is actually made, the need of traditions keeping is strong as ever. Musée des Arts Décoratifs, one of the most iconic Parisian museums currently hosts just the exhibition for the cause. ‘Fashion Forward’ is an ambitious project, covering three centuries of fashion from the 1715th to the contemporary collections.

To put on such a spectacular display, already seen by 80,000 visitors and couting, the Arts Décoratifs sorted its grand collection that now comprises more than 150,000 works. Under the guidance of chief curator Pamela Golbin, 300 pieces of men’s, women’s and children’s attire were freed from their display cases in front of the audience craving for the all-embracing panorama of fashion history.

‘Fashion Forward’ is more than an exquisite showcase, the exhibition invites each visitor to reinterpret in a way the place of fashion on multi-levels of context: from artistic, social and historical perspectives.

The exhibition is also a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the museum’s fashion collection, which would not be the same without its chief curator Pamela Golbin. She is a renowned expert in the sphere, having authored many catalogs and books on fashion legends alongside curating more than 30 exhibitions over the span of her career.

The sheer force of creative arrangement Pamela applies to each of her projects is amazing: it’s enough to remember the prominent retrospective Vionnet show in 2009, her recent book “Couture Confessions” and now “Fashion Forward”, a true happening both in arts and fashion worlds. The exhibition continues until August 14th.
