Jackson Arn, The New Yorker’s art critic since 2023, has been dismissed following allegations of “inappropriate overtures” at the magazine’s 100th-anniversary party, as reported by The New York Times.
The event, held at Jean’s in Manhattan’s NoHo district, hosted many prominent figures, including former editor Tina Brown and Maus author Art Spiegelman. According to attendees, Arn appeared intoxicated and behaved inappropriately toward some guests.
Before joining The New Yorker, Arn contributed to publications like Artforum, Art in America, and The Nation. He took over from longtime critic Peter Schjeldahl, who passed away in 2022. Arn’s writing covered diverse aspects of the art world, from tattoo culture to classic sculptures and cult films.
Neither Arn nor The New Yorker has publicly commented on the dismissal.
