A Year of Carolee Schneemann

MoMA PS1 unveiled a major retrospective of the pioneering artist on October 22nd.

With the Golden Lion Award at Venice Biennale and the first comprehensive retrospective of her works in the U.S, this year brings Carolee Schneemann a level of recognition, for which she has awaited five decades. The visual artist Carolee Schneemann, known for her discourses on the body, sexuality, and gender, is one of the most groundbreaking artists of the second half of the twentieth century, with a career spanning six prolific decades. 

Carolee Schneemann: Kinetic Painting brought together over 300 works, including rarely-seen examples of the artist’s early paintings for the 1950s and explorations with hybrid mediums. The exhibition will be on the view at MoMA until March 11th, 2018.
