Archive of LA Contemporary Art Scene

Getty Research Institute acquires Archive of Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) and will catalog and digitize it to make available for researchers. 

It’s been a long road for LACE since 1976 when ten artists employed by LA County decided to open a community access gallery. Today, it would be difficulty to underestimate LACE’s contribution to the development of experimental and advanced art in Los Angeles from the late 70s through the mid-90s. The archive features many important contemporary artists and includes valuable materials like photography, correspondence from artists, promotional materials, video documentation of event and performance. All of which, thanks to Getty Research Institute, will be available to researchers.
