Hauser & Wirth to present an exhibition dedicated to the seminal Italian post-war sculptor, painter, and poet Fausto Melotti.

Considered a pioneer of Italian art, Fausto Melotti used highly personal, yet universally accessible artistic language to express the full range of emotional experiences. He lived through the horrors of the Second World War, and turned to Renaissance principles of harmony, order, geometry, and musical structure, to metabolize the wartime devastation in his work.

On view from September 13th through October 27th, The Deserted City exhibition presents iconic works of Melotti in the context of his fellow Italian artistic titans. Seven Sages, Melotti’s most iconic works from the 1940s through the mid-1980s take the center place, around which the exhibition unfolds. The Deserted City includes a rare self-portrait of Melotti, ceramics, sculptures and monumental constructions. Discover Melotti’s decades' long pursuit of multi disciplinal artistic expression, combining sculptural mastery and poetic sensibility, in Hauser & Wirth.

Fausto Melotti
