Busy Art Schedule for Fall 2017 Season
The New Museum marks its 40th anniversary with several special exhibitions and the inauguration of new gallery space.
The museum’s investigation on gender as a tool and a weapon, exhibition titled Trigger, leads the season. Solo exhibitions by Kahlil Joseph, Petrit Halilaj, Helen Johnson, and Alex Da Corte will be on the view through January next year.
Kahlil Joseph’s first solo presentation in New York features a new film installation named Fly Paper, born out of the artist’s admiration of Roy DeCarava’s work. Petrit Halilaj presents a number of new video works and fabric sculptures, tracing the stories of Runik, the city in which the artist was born. Australia-born artist Helen Johnson also has a debut exhibition in an American institution, for which she has presented a new series of painting that addresses the relationships between individuals, families, and institutions. Finally, Alex Da Corte’s new work will have the honors to be displayed as the inaugural installation in the storefront window of the New Museum’s 231 Bowery building.
