The Art of Cognac : Paradis Impérial

Eaux-de-vie—these words roll so beautifully off the tongue, preparing for the sophisticated drink they embody. Hennessy Paradis Impérial is a next level experience. Out of the most secret place, called the Founder’s Cellar, it represents the most exquisite and rarest eaux-de-vie deemed worthy by the Master Blender.

The art of selection is passed down through eight generations of Master Blenders from a single family: the Fillioux. Since 1800, the Fillioux family accompanied the brand and Paradis Impérial represents the apex of the Master Blender’s art. For the Hennessy’s most prestigious blend, the Master Blender selects 10 out of 10.000 eaux-de-vie and defines the right ageing conditions for it to meet the highest expectations. Elevating these eaux-de-vie to their tipping point of elegance reveals Hennessy Paradis Impérial’s principal feature: precision.

To celebrate such a finesse, Hennessy commissioned an installation for the Founder’s Cellar in Cognac, drawing parallels between the precision required for selection of finest drink and precision required of art practitioners.

The installation by Marshmallow Laser Feast is the multimedia artist collective’s tribute to the Master Blender’s quest. Marshmallow Laser Feast, known for pushing the boundaries of art and tech, created an installation that offers an immersive and absolutely magical experience. The installation’s apparent simplicity is deceiving: it required more than 50 people and thousands of hours of work to complete.

The artists did an immense research on the concept of precision for the project and came up with the idea of literally shaping a light beam to create an image. This process requires an extreme precision at a nano-level using machinery and optics. The artists feel confident, that the installation resonates with Hennessy’s approach. A brand, that conveys heritage and does everything, aimed towards the future.
