Tai Kwun Contemporary will stage the artist’s first large-scale exhibition in China.

It seems that now the whole world wants to understand millennials, to appeal to their purchasing power. Even more so, perhaps, the millennials in China are in the spotlight, and if you want to understand what troubles this generation from an artistic perspective—Cao Fei’s new exhibition is just the occasion.

On view from September 8th until December 9th, A hollow in a world too full follows an unprecedented success and international exposure Cao Fei’s retrospective at MoMA PS1 in New York received. The artist, widely known for her works which explore realities of young Chinese in a fast-changing society, often mixed social commentary, aesthetic codes of pop culture, and references to surrealism and documentary conventions in her films and installations.

Besides the newly produced Prison Architect, the exhibition will also revisit Cao Fei’s creative highlights across the last decade, offering the audience a multi-layered view of the artist. Along with the exhibition, Tai Kwun Contemporary designed an interactive program, including artist talk and guided tours.
