Degas Unseen : 55 Drawings to be Auctioned

The precious drawings by a major modernism artist will be auctioned by Christie’s in Paris on 23 March. 

This year marks hundred years of the world without Edgar Degas, a painter and a sculptor, who was a true master in the treatment of movement. The majority of drawings, being auctioned on 23 March are from his early years, 1855-1865, revealing early years of studies, which impacted his whole artistic career. 

The collection represents a small piece of art history, boxed into and hidden in the wardrobe and then recovered in extremis by the five grandchildren of Degas’s brother.
