Design Dialogues at LACMA
The museum opens its Resnick Pavilion to host Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico, 1914-1985 exhibition
On view since September 17th until April 1st, 2018, the exhibition explores design dialogues between California and Mexico in four main themes. The audience is guided through Spanish Colonial Inspiration, Pre-Hispanic Revivals, Folk Art and Craft Traditions, and Modernism embodied in drawings, photographs, and films. More than 250 objects featured in the exhibition, are meticulously curated to recreate the unique sense of place, that characterized California and Mexico architecture and design of that time.
The exhibition gives a new context to the works of prominent figures such as Richard Neutra, Luis Barragan, Clara Porset and highlights contributions of less familiar practitioners.
