Into the M WOODS, a Beijing trendsetter museum

When a young museum manages to bring the first Andy Warhol exhibition to China and its founders are constantly featured in the influential media like Forbes, the hot talk in the art world does not go silent for a minute. And it’s for a good reason: M WOODS, a private, not-for-profit art museum opened its doors in 2014, and quickly became the trendy star beyond Beijing’s 798 Art District.

The prmanent collection, which now comprises hundreds of works, started with the founder Lin Han’s first purchase of the painting by Zeng Fanzhi, which crowned the cover of Sotheby’s 40th anniversary day auction. The collection, available to the growing audience of M WOODS includes the works of Ai Weiwei, Lucas Arruda, Luis Chan, George Condo, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Gao Ludi, Saco Kojima and many others.

In addition, each year the museum presents major single-artist and group exhibitions. Lin Han and Wanwan Lei founded the place in a spirit of focused commitment to artists and continue fostering the new names in art scene through the studio-style artist residency and massive curatorial platform.

Andy Warhol: Contact will start on August 6th, lasting until January, which makes a good reason to make a trip to Beijing. If you catch it when the weather is still warm, you’d have a chance to make a green event of it too: M WOODS actively promotes “Cycling to art”, an initiative, promoting green commute to museums.
