to enhance their collections.

The scenography and flower decorations are ?exceptional to match the quality of the exhibits. This year's feature colour is white. Opening day is always a grandiose starry event with the most well- healed on the planet arriving in their private jets and Bollinger champagne flowing.

Shanghai gallerist Pearl Lam sold two works by Su Xiao bai, 'Turquoise Blue' and 'Kuanhou -peaceful' for 250,000 us dollars each. And Chinese jeweller ,Wallace Chan ,made a huge splash with his fantastical exotic creations. Alongside his flamboyant bejewelled artefacts other jewelers offerings receded into the background. His entry into TEFAF (the european fine arts fair) was the talk of the town.

One of the most interesting galleries is Belgian Axel ?Vervoordt who was the first to mix contemporary and classic art to impressive effect. This year his minimalist stand highlights an Egyptian bronze sculpture of a Bastet sarcophagus dated 26th-30th Dynasty 664-332 BC.

Already By the end of the first day many red dots were to be seen. A good omen for the rest of the fair!
