1870 Claude Monet - Sur les planches de Trouville, Hôtel des Roches noires

This year's springtime art offering in the city of light is both plentiful and varied. ?From impressionism to cubism ?and conceptualism, there is plenty for art lovers to get their teeth into.

At the end of the 19th century, Normandy, a few hours north of Paris, ?became one of the first holiday destinations of the capital’s upper and middle classes – including ?Impressionist painters fascinated by its ever-changing light and landscapes. ?The ?Musée Jacquemart André, housed in a Second Empire mansion on Boulevard Haussmann, ?pays homage to their work there in its new show, ?"The Open-Air Studio - The Impressionists in Normandy". ?The show runs till 25 July.

After several years of renovation, the Picasso Museum, in a renaissance palace in the medieval Marais district, reopened in 2014. It is currently running two shows -- one ?of Picasso’s sculptures and one of paintings, ceramics and sculptures ?by Picasso’s fellow Spanish artist Miquel Barcelo, the first contemporary artist to be invited to show in the museum since its reopening. Picasso works are placed amongst the over 100 Barcelo works to reveal the affinities between the two artists. Until 31 July.

The Monnaie de Paris, on the left bank of the Seine, leads a double life as gallery space and French mint (it still produces medals and special ?commemorative coin sets). For the next few months the gallery space is given over to a very conceptual exhibition of ?the ?Greek Arte Povera ?artist, Jannis Kounellis. The movement is famous for using poor materials and here Kounellis uses wood, iron and lead to monumental effect. His inspiration is the smelting process to create the coins for the mint. This exhibition continues until 30 April.

A major exhibition of the groundbreaking Swiss-German modernist Paul Klee ,who died in 1940 , is opening at the Pompidou Centre on 6 April. A major figure in the artistic world of the first half of the 20th century, Klee was a cultural polymath and polymorph, by turns ?painter, teacher, musician and poet. In 250 works assembled from international museums and private collections, the exhibition offers a new interpretation of Paul Klee's work, viewed through the prism of satire and irony. Divided chronologically into seven sections it charts his development from his early years, through cubism and ?experiments with mechanical theatre, to his Bahaus period, ?his interaction with Picasso after 1932, ?and the ?final years of crisis, overwhelmed by ?Nazism, ?politics, ?illness and war. Exhibition runs until ?1 August.

The Marmottan museum, set in the Ranelagh Gardens in the elegant 16th district, is showing ?"L'Art et L'Enfant -Masterpieces of French Painting ", ?an exhibition ?that traces the history and status of children ?from the 14th ?to the 20th century . The 75-odd paintings include works by Cezanne, Monet, Renoir, Picasso and Maurice Denis; altogether an ideal destination for a quiet afternoon in Paris. Until 3 July.
