The Enduring Relevance of Barbara Kruger’s Questions

Who is beyond the law? Who is free to choose? Barbara Kruger’s monumental work returns to MOCA in anticipation of the museum’s 40th anniversary.

Nine questions stretched over emblematic red, white, and blue artwork first appeared on the south wall of MOCA in 1990. Thirty years later, the issues Barbara Kruger addresses in the Untitled (Questions) piece remain relevant and resonating, which the artist deems both tragic and disappointing. Considered part of the museum’s curatorial highlights over its forty year history, the art piece was reinstalled on the north facade of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and will remain on view until November 2020.
