MoMA Under the “Live Eye” of Lincoln Kirstein
A polymathic writer. Curator. Editor. Impresario. Tastemaker. Best known for co-founding the New York City Ballet, Lincoln Kirsten’s artistic exploration across the disciplines had a sweeping contribution to American cultural life in the 1930s and ‘40s.
The exhibition, recently announced by the Museum of Modern Art, will explore these contributions putting more than 200 works on display. On view from March 17th through June 30th, 2019, the exhibition also highlights the key importance of Kirsten in MoMA’s early history, illuminating the influence of his vision, tastes, and efforts on the Museum’s collecting, exhibition, and publication history.
