Lévy Gorvy exhibition of the remarkable Italian avant-garde artist opens in New York.

“Self-taught artist”, “prolific career spanning seven decades”, “radical artistic practice”—there are many keywords you could apply to Carol Rama, but why narrowing down the perception of this artist? Lévy Gorvy gallery organizes an extraordinary exhibition, putting the work of renowned Italian artist in the context of exhibitions she visited, the artists she was in conversation with, and the formal and conceptual concerns she encountered in the efforts of her contemporaries.

On view from January 24th through March 23rd, the exhibition showcases a selection of Rama’s early figurative watercolors, which were censored in her first solo exhibition, as well as later works like the ones from intense Bricolage series. Curated by an art history Flavia Frigeri, the exhibition puts Rama’s art into greater focus in the broader context of Turin’s cultural scene.
