Want to See Some Art Dive for it!
Environmentalist and artist Jason deCaires Tylor has officially completed the installation phase of the world’s first semi-submerged art gallery.
The Maldives just got a yet another attraction—located on the island resort of Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, the Coralarium is the newest work by renowned environmental sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, exhibiting a series of sculptural artworks on the skyline, inter-tidal waterline and seabed.
Aside from novel gallery going experience and pure aesthetic pleasure, this art space is an environmental statement, in part addressing the devastation of coral, caused by a one-degree rise in ocean temperature. Coralarium features statues that incorporate endemic environmental elements: some sculptures have tree trunks for limbs whilst others are embedded with the patterns of corals.
The guests can access the museum through guided tours in small groups, led by the resort’s resident marine biologists.
