How to Raise $45million for Environment

What does it take to get nearly everyone in Hollywood to turn to environmental issues, even if only for the night? Among stars, more unreachable than the distant galaxies, it’s practically a common decency to involve in charity, but Leonardo DiCaprio does it with the utmost class, his recent star-studded gala is another proof.

The actor’s Foundation threw a charity event on Wednesday with lots so desirable, no wonder the auction supporting environmental awareness and research raised a record $45 million.

The event, hosted in St.Tropez boasted the A-list celebrities including Bono, Edward Norton, Mariah Carey, Naomi Campbell, Chris Rock to name a few, not to mention that list of gala’s chairs was as stars-packed. Kevin Spacey, Kate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson—seems that everyone was on the French Riviera to support a good cause.

DiCaprio and his foundation threw a silent and live auction, consisting of major artworks by many of todays best and sought after artists along with priceless experiences. The lots included works by Olafur Eliasson, Damien Hirst, Jennifer Guidi, Pablo Picasso, Jana Euler, George Condo. Some of the actor’s famous friends seemed more involved with their contributions: a week on set with Martin Scorsese, an evening with Mariah Carey, a lunch with Margot Robbie—these experiences were also auctioned.

The Foundation, established in 1998 has funded environmental projects on every continent and every ocean, raising awareness and support to issues ranging from climate change, indigenous rights, ocean conservation and wildlife habitat protection. Over the years, Leonardo DiCaprio has crafted a reputation of an environmentalist in word and action. But after all, if it’s DiCaprio talking about the environment in danger, who doesn’t want to listen?
