Deportation from Europe, a Muslim drag queen returning to Mombasa, violence against women in Juarez, a gay lucha libra wrestler, kids growing up in a shadow of cartel violence—these and many more stories will find their audience with support of Sundance.

Thirteen new independent feature projects from the U.S., Cuba, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, and Palestine have been selected for the 2018 Sundance Institute Director and Screenwriters Labs. The Directors Lab has already started and will help directors to drive creative growth under the guidance of industry advisors, actors, and production crews. The Screenwriters Lab is a similar hands-on experience for screenwriters benefitting from one-on-one support from Institute advisors.

Sundance has an established history of supporting visual storytellers and their bold visions, and this year’s selected projects as diverse as they are, have one thing in common— their creators explore contemporary issues and our essential humanity.
