Al Pacino Honored for 50-year Career in Hollywood

Some actors play characters, Al Pacino becomes one. US President welcomed Hollywood star, who, together with other five legends, was honored for their influence on American culture at a reception in the White House. Like with touching Medal of Freedom ceremony earlier in November, Barack and Michelle Obama’s final Kennedy Center Honors was somewhat bittersweet.

As per tradition, the honorees were kept in the dark about which A-list guests will be at the gala to congratulate them. This year, Sean Penn, Garth Brooks, Aretha Franklin, David Letterman, Ringo Starr were just a handful of the stars drawn to the event to celebrate the honorees. Sean Penn, among others, paid tribute to Al Pacino, regarding the actor as a beloved mentor.

Al Pacino has appeared in more than 50 films since he started his career in the late sixties. Some of the movies he starred in turned into the golden classics of cinema, including “Scarface”, “The Godfather” series, “Serpico” and “Scent of a Woman”. The later, featuring an unforgettable tango scene, earned him a lead actor Oscar. He also has on BAFTA, two Emmys, two Tonys and four Golden Globes in his arsenal of awards.

Fellow honorees of the 39th Kennedy Center Honors included singer-songwriter James Taylor, gospel singer Mavis Staples, pianist Martha Argerish and the three surviving members of the Eagles.
