Milan Fashion Week : Hot in Men's Fashion

Fashionistas barely had time to catch their breath after the anniversary Pitti Uomo, when another must-visit event dictated the schedule. Milan fashion week opened its men fashion edition on June 17th, showcasing SS17 collections and it was some hot 5 days hustle with some fashion houses opting for a menswear calendar break, while others surprised and amused. Here’s what was happening, in case you missed it.

DSquared2 went rock all the way, setting the tone for the event with collection unveiled during the first day. The brand sent down the runway ‘chic-hooligan’ looking models donning all sorts of cropped jeans and sleeveless muscle shirts.

Canali presented a bunch of relaxed looks with a certain aviator flare to some of the pieces.

While Prada might have established a strong, outdoorsy look with vast backpacks, anoraks, boonie hats and hybrid sandals spotted in abundance on the runway.

Dolce&Gabbana threw such a show, that media buzzed for a long time. It was not only the eclectic collection itself, that seems to gather looks for any occasion in guy’s calendar, but a New York jazz band performing a ‘live soundtrack’ to the show.

Marni pleased their devoted crowd with a collection in best traditions of geeky-luxury aesthetics, and not taking seriously even tailored looks. While some designers like Neil Barrett played safe with a bit of a last-season flavored collection, others went out to new terrains for inspiration.

Marcelo Burlon, for instance, presented a visually bold and culturally layered collection with strong ninja references. It’s worth noting thestrong debut of Chinese designer Jun-Li who presented sharp looks with somewhat minimalistic vibes.

On a closing note, Armani show was a star-packed event, as usual and the collection itself set a relaxed-wanderer tone with soft colors, clean lines and subtle innovations.

All in all, Milan Fashion Week is usually a celebration of all things loud and flashy, this year remained faithful to its traditions. With a certain ‘bad boy’ feel dominating a lot of runways, the collections were as diverse as possible, occasionally diversified with minimalistic presentations.
