When Haute Couture Happens to You

Unlike regular fashion weeks, Couture Week is a twice-a-year occasion which only takes place in Paris. Here's how we remembered Spring-Summer 2017 season.

1. The Oscar-Worthy Front Row at Armani Privé

It’s that season of the hottest red carpets and haute couture is in order! Just a few hours after the announcement of the 2017 Academy Awards nominations, Isabelle Huppert and Nicole Kidman, two of this year's nominees showed up at the Armani Privé show. The media already dubbed the show a '21st century Scheherezade collection': the designer added an optimistic tone with lots of curry-colored embellished silk dresses, embroidery and sequins.

2. Chanel's New Bride

Following the brand's tradition of recent years, a star child was a must-have of the show. This time Lily-Rose Depp, the 17-year-old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis had the honor of being the bride-the last model to walk the runway with Karl Lagerfeld in Chanel's most extravagant look.

3. Vetements-Couture Disrupters

No, it is very hard to see homeless chic as 'low-key glamour' suitable for the week of showcasing pure skills and excellence of couture. But what would couture week be without the true eccentrics, the radicals of a new era, who shake the fashion world with every appearance?

4.Two Big Debuts

Following her statement-infused ready-to-wear debut in September, Dior designer Maria Grazia Chiuri elaborated on her vision with a dreamy collection of whimsical gowns shown in an indoor labyrinth of leaves and moss. Pierpaolo Piccioli showed veils and pleated dresses in his Valentino couture debut collection-less flamboyant but totally modern.

5.State-of-the-Couture Tech

Notice how a lot of tech innovation originates in Holland? One thing for sure, there are not many designers who have extended the wearable tech concept as much as Iris Van Herpen. Once again, Dutch designer shined with garments designed on the computer and looking like walking optical illusions.
