MoMA brings the milestone performance installation by Cuban artist Tania Bruguera.
On the view from February 3rd to March 11th, Untitled (Havana, 2000) is a crucial work of Bruguera, marking a turning point, when the artist started to consider active audience engagement. She called the works from this period a ‘behavior art’, that addresses collective memory. The installation, conceived for the 7th Havana Biennial, was on the view for mere hours, was shut down by the authorities. Now, thanks to the efforts of Chief Curator Stuart Comer and Curatorial Assistant Martha Joseph, the performance installation receives the showcase it deserves.
The exhibition is part of Citizens and Borders series of MoMA with a focus on works that offer a critical perspective on migration, territories, and displacement.
