One of the Most Important Fundraisers at LACMA

Collectors Committee Weekend wrapped up with eight new acquisitions and $2.4 million dollars raised.

One of the most exciting and important fundraisers of the year, the two-day Collectors Committee event was a resounding success. This year, all proposed acquisitions were by female artists ranging from the 15th century to today, in line with the museum’s commitment to further diversify its collection. Only one work has been disclosed so far— Untitled by Luchita Hurtado, who’s been enjoying her golden hour recently with a solo show in New York, and retrospectives scheduled in London and Mexico.

In addition, each year, an artist whose work is in LACMA’s collection makes an edition for Collectors Committee members who donate at the highest level. This year, Betye Saar known for her works that mix surreal, symbolic imagery with a folk art aesthetic, did the honors.
