The Lost World of Photographer Paolo Di Paolo
Gucci has teamed up with Rome’s MAXXI museum to present a retrospective book one of the greatest reportage photographers.
The exhibition in Shanghai’s Yuz Museum, continuous Gucci Art Murals project, and countless collaborations with various artists——the Italian fashion house’s interest and support of the art is not ceasing. This time, the brand has teamed up with the Museum of the Arts for the 21st Century, to publish a book in advance of Di Paolo’s exhibition next March. The book will gather more than 300 works the Rome-based photographer took between 1954 and 1968. Di Paolo rose to fame capturing with his compact Leica C camera the country as it emerged from World War II. Di Paolo had taken black-and-white portraits of key personalities in Italy’s art, culture, fashion and movie spheres, including
Pier Paolo Pasolini, Gina Lollobrigida, Brigitte Bardot, Federico Fellini, Sophia Loren, and Marcello Mastroianni, to name a few.
Along with images, the book will feature texts written by Michele and Di Paolo, a biography curated by his daughter Silvia, as well as commentaries and written contributions by art critic Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, fellow photographer Paolo Pellegrin, as well as Italian journalists and writers.
