The Many Friendships of Robert Rauschenberg

The first 21st-century retrospective of the artist in upcoming MoMA exhibition.

Robert Rauschenberg: Among Friends will be on display since May 21st until September 17th, presenting work from six prolific decades of artist’s work. Over 250 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, and sound and video recordings - the legacy of Rauschenberg, a disruptor, who brought stuff of the everyday world into his art. 

He worked alone and in collaboration with artists, dancers, musicians, and writers, so ‘the retrospective is structured as an ‘open monograph’ - as other artists came into Rauschenberg’s creative life, they come into the exhibition. These figures include John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Sari Dienes, Jasper Johns, Billy Klüver, Yvonne Rainer, Paul Taylor, David Tudor, Cy Twombly, Susan Weil, and many others’ - as stated in the press release.
