Architectural Couture: Guo Pei F/W Collection
The Chinese couturier’s new collection looks very statuesque, drawing a line between architecture and fashion.
Guo Pei believes, that “haute couture has to be a bit mad, otherwise it mingles with ready-to-wear”, shifting an emphasis from wearability to creative expression. The couturier’s newest collection, presented in Paris already was dubbed in the media as “a meditation on Gothic churches”, showcasing an array of elaborate looks, that required exquisite mastery to make. Many of the designs were richly embroidered with three-dimensional elements, featuring corsets, vaulted pannier skirts, and arched necklines.
Although not a stranger to explorations of religious matter, with this collection Guo Pei set to push the limits of fashion, and successfully did so. Even though the couturier is unbothered about the wearability of her creations, no doubt we’ll see some of these designs spicing up many red carpet occasions.
